Mary Lou's Story

A lifetime of caring

For Mary Lou, United Way-funded programs have meant a lifetime of caring. Some of her best memories come from her eight years as a Campfire Girl, a program funded by United Way, where she learned the importance of teamwork and the value of building relationships.

Decades later, when Mary Lou, her family and volunteers fought the '97 flood at her parents' home, several United Way funded programs helped. The American Red Cross fed the volunteers and the Salvation Army provided volunteers and cleaning supplies.

When Mary Lou's father died six years ago, a Hospice bereavement program funded by United Way, provided counseling for Mary Lou and her family-giving them the tools they needed to cope with their loss.

"A gift to the United Way Community Fund can help with needs that can arise throughout a lifetime. Thank you for what you have done for me and my family."
