Letter Carrier Food Drive
If you were to drive down the street on a Saturday in mid-May, you would see a lot more than envelopes protruding from mail boxes in the greater Fargo Moorhead area. That’s when letter carriers throughout the nation collect non-perishable food donations from people on their routes in the nation's largest one-day effort to combat hunger.
United Way of America helps promote and staff this event along with the National Association of Letter Carriers. The results are impressive:
- In 2007, letter carriers collected 66,612 pounds of food
- Food from West Fargo and North Fargo went to the Emergency Food Pantry
- Collections from South Fargo were donated to the Great Plains Food Bank
- Moorhead's donations benefited the Dorothy Day House Food Pantry
