WELL, Women Enhancing Lives through Leadership, held its spring quarterly program Tuesday, March 18, 2008 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Catalyst Medical Center in Fargo.

This spring the program focus was “Going Green”.  There was a panel discussion on how to incorporate “green” design into building offices and homes, and why it is important for the environment. Steven M. Foss, Principal Architect, and Roxanne Mairs, Commercial Designer, of Catalyst Medical Center and Missy Borgen, a “Off the Power Grid” homeowner, were the panelists with Dr. Susan M. Mathison, surgeon and co-owner of Catalyst Medical Center serving as the panel moderator.

Foss talked about the importance of using as much natural light as possible. “It allows you to use less power during the day because you won’t have to use your lights, plus people feel happier,” said Foss. Mairs talked about the products that were used for decorating. The carpet was made of recycled material and laid down in tiles “that way if you get a stain that cannot be removed you will only need to replace one or two tiles instead of the whole carpet”, said Mairs. Borgen explained how she built a house that is doesn't use any city water or electricity. She also described how she recycles water and shared pictures of her energy saving appliances.

The next quarterly program will be the WELL Golf Scramble in June.
